Brilliant Blooms

Brilliant Blooms is a celebration of the unique beauty of flowers and their ability to bring joy and hope during times of anguish and uncertainty. Made of glass, the handcrafted sculpture functions as a large vase for displaying locally grown, dried flowers.

Brilliant Blooms is a celebration of the fascinating intricacy and beauty of flowers. During the bleakness of the COVID-19 pandemic, I noticed myself becoming even more fond of flowers than ever before. Flowers represent light, joy and optimism, and brought me momentary relief at a time of deep anguish and uncertainty. Each new bud and bloom symbolize hope and include a promise of new beginnings – better times are ahead, but for now we just have to hang on in there.

The main part of the sculpture is a heat-moulded glass plate that functions as a large vase for displaying flowers. During the exhibition the vase can be filled with water and fresh, seasonal flowers that are grown by a local gardener.  Alternatively the vase can be filled with locally grown dried flowers, which are a more ecological option and preserve their fascinating shapes and colours even after the drying process. The BrilliantBlooms glass sculpture is handcrafted in collaboration with Lasilinkki, a glazing company located in Kuopio, Finland. The flowers are supported by Karjalanruusu Oy, Rääkkylä.
